Vitamin C Benefits During Pregnancy
Vitamin C finally breaks through the Knowledge Suppression Wall and finds its way to women of childbearing years. If infertility is a concern, you will want to learn about vitamin C. If you are thinking about conceiving, you will want to learn about Vitamin C. If you are pregnant, are about to give birth, or have an infant, you will want to learn about vitamin C. If you are a human being, you will want to learn about vitamin C.
This Tea Time episode1 (produced by Children’s Health Defense2) is chock-full of thoughtful conversation and independent resources based on decades of physician- and citizen-use and century-long suppressed bodies of scientific work. First, let’s learn about the word ‘orthomolecular.’ It means the right molecules in the right amount.3 Providing the right nutrients at levels that actually meet the body’s need is a simple yet brilliant strategy, and can provide part of the foundation for the restoration of human fertility. I will go out on a ‘misinformation’ limb and suggest that—due to the essential nature of C— this strategy stands alone as having the greatest potential, after acute and ongoing harmful exposures have been eliminated. Here, the word ‘essential’ means the nutrient is necessary for life and must be consumed because the body cannot produce it. One must eat foods containing C or supplement with C or else tissues and organs will become deficient.4
In today’s toxic-soaked surroundings, many of us are experiencing some level of scurvy, some worse than others.5 The only substance that cures scurvy is vitamin C, because scurvy is defined as the condition resulting from a deficiency of this substance. So…scurvy still exists today, and the cure is still vitamin C, in a dose that does the job. In this case, the word cure is appropriate. It may seem that the doses discussed on this episode are large, but consider that the need is great. Sucking on a lime will not get the job done. Industrial advice is to take tiny amounts — this is really poor advice. When discussing effective vitamin C supplementation, we are talking about grams, not milligrams. (1 g = 1000 mg)
Interestingly, have you ever heard a doctor mention scurvy? Vitamin C deficiency? The phrase has been stricken from the books, as if the condition is an impossibility. Just like mercury poisoning, I guess. Not only can modern people not become poisoned by neurotoxins, but it is dangerous to meet the elevated need with the exact nutrient that would cure the deficiency symptoms! (That is sarcasm.) Our toxic loads have created elevated nutrient needs not experienced by our ancestors—even our grandparents. In my opinion, based on the work of orthomolecular physicians, our modern vitamin C need often cannot be met by eating even the best organic, ancestral diet.
Modern scurvy exists as part of a pan-deficiency situation that varies from person to person, based on his or her historical exposure profile going back to his or her conception. I hold the opinion that every modern diagnosis is attempting to categorize infinite combinations of pan-deficiency syndromes, which result from nutrient and energy deficiencies in the body, caused by non-ancestral environmental exposures. Let us combat modern deficiency syndromes with the proper substances! Let us begin with C!
On a personal note, it is difficult to hear these young mothers talk about healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. It is painful to imagine the ongoing industrial effort to squash and hide evidence that benefits humanity.6 This information was certainly hidden from me, and hidden well. With the acknowledgment that suppression and censorship has been and is still occurring comes a responsibility to break this injustice, to crack the information floodgates that hold back the tide of valid scientific results and reliable testimonials collected over the past century. To say I wish I had this information during my pregnancies is an understatement large enough to encircle the Earth. I would have delved into Klenner’s Vitamin C Pregnancy Protocol with confidence, never missing a tart dose.

Commentary
300 Successful Pregnancies In A Row
When I hear something that is interesting, maybe even unbelievable, I attempt to find the source. I had previously heard about Dr. Klenner’s ‘300 pregnancies in a row,’ but when I looked for the article, I uncovered a treasure trove of historical medicine — what used to happen when curious doctors made attempts to help their patients actually break free from illness. Frederick R. Klenner was a physician who lived from 1907 to 1984. Lendon H. Smith, MD wrote a digest of Klenner’s publications and unpublished works related to his use of Vitamin C in clinical practice. It is something all adult human beings should read. The cognitive dissonance will be great, as testimonials of all sorts of conditions fade into the past when vitamin C is administered at a dose that is therapeutic for that person at that moment.
Here is Dr. Smith’s paragraph about Klenner’s Vitamin C babies:
Dr. Klenner has found in his investigation of over 300 pregnancies, that the stress of the condition pushed the needs for C in women up to 15 grams a day ... We are all different and our needs for Vitamin C vary depending upon heredity, environment, stress —or its perception. He reminds us of Roger Williams’ research in 1968 showing that some guinea pigs needed twenty times more Vitamin C than others to maintain their health. (The usual dose for pregnant humans: 4 grams daily in the first trimester; 6 grams daily in the second trimester; 8 to 10 grams in the third trimester). He obtained excellent results with these large doses of C in women who had been habitual aborters. [Greenblatt] One woman had had five miscarriages and then with the Vitamin C went on to have two normal pregnancies. The German literature is full of cases of these good results. Hemoglobin was easier to maintain, leg cramps were less (Vitamin C enhances iron and calcium and magnesium absorption). Striae gravidarum (stretch marks) were seldom encountered. Labor was shorter and less painful. No postpartum hemorrhage. The perineum was more elastic and if Vitamin C was maintained, it continued to remain firm. Infants are robust with this Vitamin C. None required resuscitation. 50 mg of ascorbic acid was begun on the infant’s second day and was gradually increased as time went on. A set of quadruplets in this series were healthy and taking milk on the second day. It is especially helpful for the rapidly growing connective tissue, teeth and blood vessels. [King]8
If you’re wondering why a guinea pig study was cited, guinea pigs are the other species, besides humans, who cannot make their own vitamin C and must consume it to maintain levels that prevent symptoms of scurvy.
Greenblatt and King are the secondary sources, both of which are behind a paywall. (Boo, hiss.) The original citation is from a published article .9
The Many Faces of Vitamin C
The forms discussed in this episode are: 1) ascorbic acid powder, which is very tart; 2) buffered sodium ascorbate for those who cannot stomach oral doses of ascorbic acid powder; and 3) liposomal C, which is a fat soluble form. For those interested in learning more about these and other forms, I refer you to Thomas Levy, MD, JD and his Peak Energy website. Dr. Levy’s articles provide top-notch information on which I personally have relied for years. My personal Recovery Library contains seven books authored by this open-minded, brilliant man. Curing the Incurable: Vitamin C, Infectious Diseases, and Toxins is sometimes on my bookshelf, but usually right on my desk.10 I sometimes wonder how I survived without the knowledge contained in this single book. A careful reading in my mid-40s set the stage for my own recovery and my ability to challenge the modern medical industrial paradigm.
Government Recommendations
Compare C Therapeutic Doses (the doses used by the Tea Time guests) with guidelines published by the US government.
Klenner’s first-trimester patients started on 4000 mg/day and worked up to 8-10 grams over the next two trimesters.
I notice three unfortunate, purposeful effects of these government tables. First, all dosing recommendations are pitifully small—in fact, negligible, almost zero, compared to the independently-derived orthomolecular dosing discussed during Tea Time. Second, the age-related increases within the pregnancy and lactation tables are at increments of 5 mg. Somebody created, based on no evidence at all, a recommendation that an 18-year-old breastfeeding woman requires 115 mg of vitamin C a day and a 19-year-old breastfeeding woman requires 120 mg. This table subconsciously leads the reader to think that C requirements are not only the same for people within their demographic category, but might be age-dependent. I say with confidence: these numbers are made up. They represent a tiny slice of one’s actual need for C in the modern world. Perhaps this is the amount needed to keep a person from ancestral scurvy—where one’s teeth begin to fall out and black splotches appear over one’s body. Once a person understands that gram dosing (not milligrams!) is required for a modern therapeutic effect, the government tables become laughable. The government tables concern me for a third reason; their detailed dosing could lead one to assume that going over the government-recommended dose could lead to toxicity or some type of ‘overdosing.’
Is It Possible to Overdose When Using Oral Vitamin C? The C Flush
When a body reaches the point of C saturation, additional vitamin C will cause the GI tract to fill with water and expel the bowel contents. Let us just say it: diarrhea! A process of taking multiple doses of Vitamin C at 30- or 45-minute intervals can be used to manage constipation. On some days, a person may reach bowel tolerance after a few thousand mg. Yesterday, I was not feeling well, and I consumed 60 g (or 60,000 mg) of sodium ascorbate over a 4-hour period before reaching bowel tolerance. The details are private.
Final Thoughts
I have rejected the industrial narrative about vitamin C, that on one hand ‘there is no evidence of benefit.’ This phrase begins to sound absurd once your hear the reality of C from independent nonindustrial sources, hear testimonials of its effectiveness, and then consider it for a while. On the other hand, the industrialists simultaneously claim that essential nutrients are toxic. I have rejected this claim as well. Essential nutrients are essential. So you may as well make the effort to discover the unique doses that gets the job done under varying conditions in your body. Vitamin C (or ascorbic acid) and B vitamins are water soluble. They do their many jobs and are spent before you can look up how to spell corruption. For Jamee and other Spellers, that’s …
c-o-r-r-u-p-t-i-o-n
Corruption.
